Resat "Turk" Diler
began sailing at age 14 with the Turkish Navy and two years later was part of the Turkish merchant marine at age 16.
In 1986 Turk jumped ship in Tampa in his pursuit for freedom. In 1996 he became a U.S. citizen.
Turk has circumnavigated the world three times and has sailed upon all of the world's oceans.

Turk joined the American Steamship Company aboard the George A. Stinson as an
OS/AB in 1995. The following photos were taken in June 2005 aboard the Indiana Harbor,
and at Ontario Power Generation in Nanticoke, Ontario.


Guard us oh god, almighty king,
From Gale of Fall, oh keep us safe.
From Shoal and Reef, protect us from
The Inland Seas.
To Long Ships passing through the night,
Please give the guidance of thy light.
