While it is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, it is every bit as true that words create their
own images, conspicuously altered in our consciousness. I have always been drawn to writing,
and find it to be a very exacting process, sometimes spontaneous, sometimes deliberate,
but always exciting when a story emerges.
The writing contained on these pages focuses on the Great Lakes maritime industry,
and the men and women working in it. Within the stories I try to expand upon the experiences
of the mariner, to translate their spirit and their expertise as it relates to sailing
on the Great Lakes. While there are many commonalities between stories, careers, and philosophies,
each person brings a unique experience that adds to an overall body of knowledge.
