The
Canadian Transport enters the Grassy Point draw with a load of road
salt for the C. Reiss dock in West Duluth. With a draft of 22' and
a slip depth of 22' the Transport uses the tug North Dakota for
assistance in reaching the dock. |

This
is the Transport's first cargo of Salt for the 2003 season after
30 loads of coal. The cargo of 21,700 tons was loaded the Sifto
Canada, Inc. salt mine at Goderich, Ontario for delivery to Duluth.

The
Canadian Transport was built in 1979 to deliver low-sulfur coal
to Ontario Hydro's generating plant at Nanticoke. Cargoes are unloaded
with a reclaimer that travels the length of the ship's hold. |

Kenneth MacKenzie has been at the helm of the Canadian Transport
for the past six years. A native of Prince Edward Islands, Canada,
Captain MacKenzie has spent 25 years sailing the waters of the Great
Lakes.
