The Algosoo loads coal at Superior's Midwest Energy Terminal. The Algosoo, launched in 1974, was the last lake carrier built with forward and aft cabins.

The Algosoo arrived in Superior light from Lambton Power on the St. Clair River. This cargo will take the vessel to Ontario Power Generation's coal-fired station at Nanticoke on Lake Erie.

 

A. B. Wheelsman Ron Quirk, a native of Nova Scotia, began his sailing career with Algoma Central Marine in 1971 aboard the Sir Denys Lowson. He has served for the past 15 years aboard the Algosoo.

Despite being the end of June the Midwest Energy loading crew bundle up to work in the damp, 48 degree temperatures at Superior.

Captain E. B. Sevor

Captain E. B. Sevor left his native land of Ghana, West Africa to see the world before settling in Ottawa, Canada. Captain Sevor has been with Algoma Central Marine for 26 years, the past four as master of the M/V Algosoo.
